In my ASROCK P4i45GV mother board, if I connect another hard disc either as  primary slave or secondary master, Windows does not recognises the partition information or does not detects the hard disc at all.If it gets detected and if I try to open it, it says this drive is not formated. If I connect this hard disc as primary master,I can run all programmes on this disc.Is operating system on both hard drives creates this problem or some other issue? Also I tried to manual jumper setting of hard disc and tried in CS(chip select mode).same problem. If  connect this hdd via USB interface it works well.I tried with different hard discs like Samsung 160GB , seagate 250GB etc.

Thanks sandro,I was assuming some issue with bios update but the updates are done through floppy disc and now a days to get new blank floppy disc is also not easy. most of the disc are faulty.please see the post for bios update in the forum .
http://www.sharefx.net/computers-and-components/bios-updates/ (http://www.sharefx.net/computers-and-components/bios-updates/)  you have already answered the question.
Thanks

Hello dear friend Tammu.

I have some questions to ask reference  to hdd Slave.

1) The bios on the motherboard detects units?

2) What O.S used?

3) Are diferent  OS in hdd units?

Windows automatically allocates the letter c, d, e, f, etc. ..

Using ide 0 and  ide 1 if you have two ide cables , and placing the jummper setting in both hdd in CS (cable select) should not have problems.  If only has a cable available both hdd units should one works as  master  and the other as slave and the bios have to detect the both  units.
Press F2 when the system start  and run bios setup screen where you can confirm also  bios version.

Best regards!

Hi dear tammu, you can burn in cd 's or dvd's the contained data you consider or wish to preserv
After preserving this important information you can do without the operating system installed in the above mentioned unit, giving it format like that it  recovers the space used by the operating system and remaining this as slave. It is an option until it wants to use one of the units as(like) removable .
If decide to give format to the unit slave, then can administer i organizer the files stores in dvd or CD
Best regards

try;
RESET motherboard...
pull out memory then reinstall again..(only one hdd installed)
then install the other hd.

another possible cause:
bios update automatically

worst,,, motherboard problem,,
cannot process by IDE (slave)
same with mine cannot detect mouse through PS2(i use USB)
